The Cote (hill in French) Chalonnaise is in the Burgandy area of France...in the middle of the eastern side of the country. It is just below Dijon, and includes Lyon at it's southern end. The grape varietals mainly grown are Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, and their secondary varietals include Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Gamay (Beaujolais Neuvo is released every year, during the 3rd week in November - many of them are really good!), Pinot Liebault, Aligote, and Melon de Bourgogne. The district has only five appellations, two for white wine only and three for red or white. The wines from there are very good in quality, and a very good value for their cost. It is a beautiful area, and a "must see" area in France! Monte D. Young 03:26, 6 July 2011 (EST)
